COVKARTSPORT

The UK's Original Rental Kart Championship...

The Team Championship is based around teams of 2 drivers - it doesn't matter about championship class or weight class, so, for example, a Heavyweight Standard and a Junior Plus could make a team, or a Junior Standard and a Junior Plus could also be in a team.

Trophies / Prizes will be awarded at the end of the season, based on the number of teams that enter this championship - entry into the Team Championship is not included in Full Season Membership, so there is an additional fee of £15 per team, if entries submitted before 5th January 2020, rising to £20 per team after that date - Entries for the Team Championship will close after R2 of the Championship on 1st March 2020.

Drivers decide who they want to join up with to make a team, or they can enter as 'single' drivers and be paired up to make a team. If there is an odd number of 'single' drivers then one of the CovKartSport team will join to make a team. With one driver being nominated as a Team Captain, scoring double points, points for the Team Championship are the combined total of each drivers points from the main 2020 Championship plus each drivers points from the Season 25 Points Trophy (including any Bonus points for fastest race laps)

Team Championship Points

In the main championship, each driver will be awarded points based on their weight sub-class finishing position in each race. In the Season 25 Points Trophy, each driver will be awarded points based on their overall race finishing positions with the addition of Bonus Points for fastest laps (in each race and per championship round). The points awarded for the team Championship are a combined total of each drivers points in the main championship and the points trophy, but with a twist - Points won by the Team Captain count as double in the Team Championship...!

So for example, Driver A races in Lightweight Plus and finishes 6th in a Championship Race, and is the 2nd placed Lightweight Plus driver in that race. They also set the fastest Lightweight Plus lap time in that race, and that lap is also the fastest Lightweight Plus lap time of the day - so Driver A is awarded points as follows :

  • Main Championship (Lightweight Plus) - 18 pts for 2nd place
  • Season 25 Points Championship - 16 pts for 6th place plus 1 pts for the fastest race lap in LP plus 1 pts for the fastest lap of the day in LP = 18 pts.

Driver B races in Junior Standard and finishes 11th in a Championship Race, and is the 7th placed Junior Standard in that race - so Driver B is awarded points as follows :

  • Main Championship (Junior Standard) - 9 pts for 7th place
  • Season 25 Points Championship - 11 pts for 11th place

So Driver A has 36 pts and Driver B has 20 pts from one  race - Driver B is the team captain so their points are doubled to 40 pts, giving a team total of 76 pts for one race.

Championship Points Totals, Awards & Trophies

At the end of the season, each team will drop their two lowest scoring rounds (not races), so the final Team points total will be their best 8 scoring rounds from 10. If, during the season, one team member does not race at a particular round(s), then the other team members points will still count towards the Team total as a scoring round (although it is likely that in that scenario, it would be a dropped score)

In terms of Trophies and Prizes, it is dependent on the number of teams that enter - there needs to be a minimum of 5 teams :

  • 5 - 10 teams : Trophies for Top 3 teams, 2 x £50 Trackdays vouchers for 1st placed team
  • 11 - 15 teams : Trophies for Top 3 teams, 2 x £50 Trackdays vouchers for 1st placed team, 2 x £25 Amazon vouchers for 2nd placed team, 2 x £15 Amazon vouchers for 3rd placed team.
  • 16 - 20 teams : Trophies for Top 3 teams, 2 x £75 Trackdays vouchers for 1st placed team, 2 x £50 Trackdays vouchers for 2nd placed team, 2 x £25 Amazon vouchers for 3rd placed team.
  • 21 - 25 teams : Trophies for Top 3 teams, 2 x £100 Trackdays vouchers for 1st placed team, 2 x £50 Trackdays vouchers for 2nd placed team, 2 x £25 Amazon vouchers for 3rd placed team.
  • 26 teams or more : Trophies for Top 3 teams, 2 x £125 Trackdays vouchers for 1st placed team, 2 x £75 Trackdays vouchers for 2nd placed team, 2 x £50 Trackdays vouchers for 3rd placed team.

Entry to the Team Championship

All drivers who wish to enter the Team Championship must also have taken a Full Season Membership - there is no option for guest drivers, or drivers with Daytona Cup only Memberships (unless they upgrade to a Full Season).

It is best if drivers decide between themselves who they want to be in a team with, and submit a standard team entry form. Only one form to be submitted per team, to include both drivers names, a team name (keep it clean...!) and nomination of the team captain. Confirmed teams will be listed on the Team Entry List.

If your suggested team name is either already taken, or is considered to be 'unsuitable', we will let both drivers know by e-mail, and they will need to decide a new team name and let us know.

There is also an option for individual drivers to enter, and we will pair drivers into teams based on date/time order that 'single' driver entries and payments are sent in - i.e. the first two drivers to submit an entry and pay the entry fee will be paired in a team. We will nominate the first driver as team captain, and also suggest a team name, and contact both drivers by e-mail to let them know - if they want to change their captain and/or team name, then let us know by return e-mail.

Entry costs £7.50 per driver / £15 per team if paid before 5th January 2020, rising to £10 per driver / £20 per team from 6th January 2020. The closing date for entries into the Team Championship is 1st March 2020.

In case there is an odd number of single driver entries, then one of the CovKartSport organisers will join that team to make it a team of two.

Payment of Entry Fees

Entry Fees should be paid as soon as possible (i.e. within 48hrs) of submitting the entry form. For Standard Team entry, one driver can pay the full amount, or both drivers can pay the individual amount. For Single Driver entry, only the individual amount is payable. Team Entries will only be confirmed when payment of the full team amount has been received.

(Note : In order to facilitate communication between single entry drivers regarding team captaincy and team name, it will be necessary to send one e-mail to both drivers, which by default means sharing the other driver's e-mail address, therefore consent is required)

It is assumed that drivers who have already formed a team and submit a standard team entry will already be known to each other, and as such, already consent to sharing e-mail addresses.
